Care & Storage

Improper storage or handling of accessories may cause damage or affect their appearance, so Hairmates pieces require gentle care and special maintenance.

We’ve gathered some tips to help prolong the life of your accessories so they can delight you for many years to come.

ACRYLIC / ACETATE

  • Do not expose acrylic accessories to high temperatures or sudden temperature changes. Avoid keeping them near heating devices, leaving them under direct sunlight, or wearing them while blow-drying your hair.
  • Italian acrylic goes through multiple stages of polishing. To prevent damage to the smooth surface, make sure that the accessory does not come into contact with liquids containing alcohol or any harsh chemicals.
  • Avoid contact between the metal parts of acrylic clips and water, as this may cause rust.
  • Clean acrylic accessories with a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with a mild soapy solution, then dry them immediately.
  • Protect acrylic pieces from falls and friction.
  • When not in use, store the accessories in a textile pouch.

TEXTILE

  • Textile accessories require gentle hand washing in cool water without aggressive detergents.
  • Ironing textile accessories is not allowed.
  • Keep them away from moisture as well as cosmetic, perfumed, or household products.
  • If skincare or decorative cosmetics get on the item, it is recommended to gently wash it within 24 hours after staining.

HORN (Natural Material)

  • Natural horn accessories should be protected from falls and friction.
  • Keep them away from moisture as well as cosmetic, perfumed, or household products.
  • When carried in a bag, horn accessories should be stored in a special pouch or a separate compartment.
  • Avoid exposure to blow dryers or hot air.

Why can horn change its shape?

Horn is not a flat but a round material that naturally bends and twists. To make a flat piece of horn, we heat and press it, depriving it of its natural curvature. If later exposed to heat or dryness—such as lying in the sun, near a heater, or even at room temperature—the horn may begin to bend back into its natural form, which can cause it to warp or deform.

About 10% of flat horn pieces may return to their natural shape during the first year. This is a natural process and does not affect the functionality of the item.

METAL

Hairmates metal accessories are coated with gold or silver plating. Therefore, the care and storage recommendations are similar to those for jewelry.

  • Keep the items away from moisture as well as cosmetic, perfumed, or household products.
  • Remove dirt and streaks with a dry, soft cloth.
  • Accessories can be cleaned with special solutions designed for gold- or silver-plated items, then thoroughly dried with a soft cloth or wipe.
  • Avoid exposing the items to blow dryers or hot air.
  • Gold- or silver-plated pieces should be stored separately from each other in a closed jewelry box, case, or drawer, avoiding direct sunlight and water.
  • It is not recommended to store them in bathrooms or other rooms with high humidity.
